There are many new opportunities for writers to submit their short stories and poetry! We’re collecting 5 open calls per month to get you started. In no particular order…
Submissions open on March 1st. Looking for quality fantasy fiction (all subgenres accepted) of up to 6,000 words. Multiple and simultaneous submissions are accepted, and reprints are welcome.
Payment: $0.08 per word USD for original fiction
Submissions Window: March 1st to 31st for limited demographic (general submissions every other month). Looking for fiction speculative stories up to 6,000 words and poetry of any length. Simultaneous submissions are fine but not multiple submissions.
Payment: $0.01 per word for fiction, and $5 or $10 for poems depending on length.
Submissions window: the first 7 days of every second month. Seeking speculative fiction of up to 10,000 words. Reprints not accepted. Simultaneous submissions not accepted.
Payment: $0.01 CAD for short stories
BIPOC fiction submissions window: March 1-14th. Opening again May 1-14 for everyone. Nonfiction submissions always open. Looking for short stories between 1,500 and 7,500 words and poetry that “stir readers with themes of defiance, change, and achievement.” Simultaneous submissions accepted but no reprints.
Payment: $0.08 per word USD for fiction, $40 per poem, and $75 per nonfiction essay.
Extended submissions window: Until March 7. Open again May 15-31, 2023. Looking for speculative fiction short stories (between 1,000 and 5,000 words) and poetry.
Payment: $0.05 per word, min $50 for short stories.
